Good News from the Bangka Congregation - Asiu

Jesus Is the Most Precious Treasure
Remaining faithful and trusting in God’s presence when the ship of our household is struck by storms is a challenge that is not easy to face. We are tested to surrender, to love, and to share, even while carrying heavy burdens.Asiu, a sister in the Bangka Congregation (Pangkalpinang), who became a disciple of Jesus in 2009, experienced this. It began with her desire to restore her marriage relationship, and that was when she started to know God’s word.
Asiu’s shy and reserved personality gradually changed because she was often invited to share her life experiences with many people. This made her more confident and open. Sadly, when Asiu decided to be baptized, her husband refused. She then had to face a struggle: to follow her husband or God. In the end, she chose to follow her husband in moving to Jakarta and left the Bangka Congregation.
Six years passed, and Asiu’s married life became difficult again. She was forced to return to Pangkalpinang with her four young children and stay temporarily at her sibling’s house.
Once again, Asiu was strengthened by the congregation and helped to build her relationship with God. Conflict with her husband made her challenge this time even heavier. However, Asiu saw that guidance was one of the things carried out by the congregation with great strength and consistency. She felt helped by the presence of people who guided her to make wise decisions in life. With the conviction that only God could change her life, Asiu was restored into the congregation in June 2015.
After getting involved in fellowship, Asiu’s character grew even more. Seeing his mother’s transformation, her eldest son, who was still a teenager, became interested in studying the Bible, then gave himself to be baptized. One of her younger siblings, who saw his older sister’s transformation, also became interested in going deeper into God’s word, and eventually also became a disciple of Jesus.
Asiu went through difficult times in her life by depending on God. Besides working to earn a living and support her family, she was also diligent in prayer and surrendered the outcome to God’s good pleasure. Asiu also loves to share stories of her answered prayers, which greatly inspire the sisters in the congregation.
Personally, Asiu has felt how walking with God lightens the burdens she carries. She believes that Jesus is her most precious treasure, able to change a person’s circumstances and character. For that reason, she wants to continue being an example to her family.
To this day, Asiu serves in the Caring Team Ministry, and also serves as a regular teacher in the Kid’s Kingdom Ministry. Her hope is to build a family that fears God, and that her two children who are now in elementary school will one day become disciples of Jesus.
