Good News from the Medan Congregation - Ester

On March 3, 2019, Ester Waruwu made the decision to be baptized. This became the beginning of a new life for Ester, to walk with Jesus, obey His commands, be His witness, and be ready to grow in Him.

Ester is the second of four siblings and is currently in the 9th grade of junior high school. She was born into a very simple family, yet one rich in the joy and love of Christ. Her father works as a driver for a motorcycle taxi app and her mother sews custom clothing at home. At her still very young age, Ester, together with her older sister Teresa, who is still in 12th grade of senior high school, has taken part in helping meet the family’s financial needs.

Every day, the two of them bring cakes made by their mother to school and sell them during recess. They do all of this with great enthusiasm and without shame, to help their parents, who have already worked so hard for the family.

After school, they tidy the house and help their mother make cakes to sell the next day. And of course, Ester makes sure all her homework is finished well.

Her school friends respect and are proud of Ester, who is still able to excel even though she carries responsibilities unusual for a teenager. It is no surprise that Ester is often chosen to be the leader of her study group in class. Hard work and discipline are part of the training in Ester’s family. She, along with her older sister and younger siblings, has excellent achievements at their respective schools.

Born into a Christian family, Ester joined KKK (Children’s Kingdom) from an early age. She saw how spiritual values and good character traits were truly alive in her family. Her willingness to receive advice helped Ester grow into an obedient child. The warmth, laughter, and good relationships in Ester’s family make all its members support one another. This meant there were no significant obstacles for Ester when learning Study Character and Guard the Gospel.

Ester saw her parents’ faithfulness in following Jesus day by day, even when her family was struck by financial difficulty. She clearly remembers when the supply of rice at home ran out and her parents did not have a single cent. Yet God’s help was never late. Somehow, customers would come to the house asking to have clothes sewn, and would pay for it right then and there.

Ester also witnessed how her father enjoyed his relationship with God through prayer and quiet time every morning. “It feels good to see and hear Papa pray,” Ester said when asked what inspired her to become a disciple of Jesus. “God is so good. I know God is there for us and provides for our needs.” That is why she was never ashamed or insecure when she had to sell cakes at school.

Ester has many friends because of her good character, politeness, honesty, and because she is not easily influenced by bad things. “I want to invite my friends to church and to study the Bible,” she said. Ester is happy that she was able to invite her school friends to attend the Valentine event in the Teens Ministry community.
