Good News from the Lampung Congregation - Mami Ien

Spreading Enthusiasm and Inspiration through Online Worship

Age and distance are no obstacle for people who want to draw near to God and have fellowship with brothers and sisters in the faith. Auntie Ien, affectionately called Mami Ien, is our example in this.

Her transfer as a member of Ministry Wanita Allah at GKDI Surabaya to Lampung at the end of 2018 brought its own distinct color to the Lampung Congregation. Mami Ien's presence has greatly helped the growth of the Ministry Wanita Allah in Lampung. From the beginning of her move, she had already expressed a strong desire in her heart to serve God in Lampung. At the age of 75, Mami Ien's spirit is no less than that of the young. This is one of the reasons why her child and child-in-law in Lampung were willing to become disciples of Jesus. They saw for themselves their mother's faith, zeal, and transformed life. 

For about a year and a half in Lampung, Mami Ien always gave her best to God. At present she is visiting her child and child-in-law in Surabaya, who had already become disciples of Jesus before Mami Ien and her late husband joined the congregation. 

Her intention to return to Lampung  in early May 2020 could not yet be carried out because of the large-scale social restrictions in Surabaya related to COVID-19. Even so, Mami Ien kept trying to stay connected with the congregation through Zoom and video call. Every Sunday, she joined the fellowship worship service and encouraged the congregation. She also made sure that a number of members of PIWA (Pria Ilahi dan Wanita Allah), as well as guests, could take part in the worship service through Zoom. 

On May 21, 2020, the Lampung Congregation and the Balikpapan Congregation held a online worship service together to commemorate the Ascension of Jesus. But at the start of the service, Mami Ien's home had a power outage. Unexpectedly, she managed to join Zoom using the light of a flashlight. We rejoiced and were inspired by her creativity in not wanting to miss the worship service and fellowship..

All eyes were on Mami Ien with her flashlight, and we were moved to have fellowship with Mami. Not only was the Lampung Congregation encouraged, but the Balikpapan Congregation was also inspired to see her steadfast heart. Mami Ien did it not because she wanted attention, but because of her perseverance in facing the challenge of an unsupportive situation. We were reminded of how, in the past, Mami Ien, at an age that was no longer young, struggled to use online transportation services to reach the location of ministry activities in Surabaya.

Let us pray that Mami Ien will remain healthy, continue serving God with zeal, strengthen Ministry PIWA, and one day see the fruits of her perseverance passed on to many people. To God be the Glory!
