Good News from the Lampung Congregation - Abun & Mrs. Ahong

Proclaim Salvation to the Family

But how can they call on Him if they do not believe in Him? How can they believe in Him if they have not heard about Him? How can they hear about Him if no one proclaims Him? – Romans 10:14

Distance and separated islands are not obstacles to introducing Jesus to the family we love. This was the deep longing that Peter and his wife, Acing, from the Jakarta Congregation, had, that every member of their family might receive salvation.

On one occasion, while visiting family in Lampung, the two of them took the opportunity to invite Acing's mother and younger brother, Mrs. Ahong and Abun, to worship and meet the GKDI Lampung community.

After that, the disciples of Jesus began visiting Abun and Mrs. Ahong at their home to build friendship. They were grateful that this family welcomed their visits with open arms. Even though Abun's father came from a different faith background, he was very welcoming of their visits.

Abun and Mrs. Ahong were also very grateful to have been introduced to the congregation, and at the end of fellowship that, both of them decided to join Bible Study. During approximately seven months of studying the Bible, many major changes took place in both of them.

Mrs. Ahong really loved her quiet time. Acing bought her a large-print Bible so that her mother could read it clearly. Every day, she could have quiet time twice and enjoy every moment of it.

In the early days of studying the Bible, Abun could say only a few words in his prayers. The brothers and sisters in the congregation also helped by writing down morning prayers, bedtime prayers, and meal prayers in a book as a guide for Abun. With the help of the community, Abun showed his determination to learn to pray and dig into God's word. The growth he experienced was truly extraordinary. Now his prayers flow naturally, and so does the way he has his quiet time.

In faith and character, Abun and Mrs. Ahong also showed a great deal of progress. They learned to make peace with the people around them, including family members whose relationships with them had not been good. Mrs. Ahong even apologized to one of her daughters-in-law in front of the mentor who taught her the Bible. Praise God, her daughter-in-law also asked for her forgiveness. Abun's relationship with his father is now better and more at ease as well.

On October 13, 2019, Abun and Mrs. Ahong were baptized. Peter and Acing once again returned to Lampung to attend their baptism service, witnessed by a number of relatives, friends, and neighbors. They rejoiced because their mother and younger brother had now become disciples of Jesus.

May Abun and Mrs. Ahong continue to grow in the kingdom of God, and may the dream also be fulfilled that Abun's father will be won over for the glory of the Lord. To God be the glory!
