Giving the Best to God, Receiving the Best from Him
When we continue to prioritize God in the midst of life’s struggles, He always has a way of giving the best for us. Sri, a sister from Jemaat Bangka (Pangkalpinang), experienced the Lord’s presence during the difficult seasons of her life.
Born and raised in a Christian family, Sri was very close to her father, who always spoiled her. From childhood she had learned about Christianity, because her father was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the church board. Sri was raised to always present herself well in order to uphold the honor of the family.
During her teenage years, Sri’s family experienced financial problems. This shaped her into a shy, withdrawn person who did not trust easily and did not care about others.
As she entered adulthood, Sri moved from Kota Pinang to Pangkalpinang for college. She felt fortunate and grateful. For her, this move was God’s plan, because through a college friend, she was introduced to a community that would later help her live out the truth of God’s word.
That friend, who was the sibling of a member of GKDI Bangka, initially invited Sri to join a Pertemuan Diskusi Alkitab. There, Sri felt God’s love through the brothers and sisters in the congregation. Although she was at first surprised to see people who wanted to live righteously in the modern era, she was inspired to learn to live honestly and sincerely like them.
Slowly but surely, Sri put off her negative traits and grew into a different kind of person. She left behind her shyness so that she could become involved in the Song Ministry. She let go of her selfishness, and became a mentor to the نوجوان children (Teens). She also became more caring toward others, so that she could bring several of her college friends to study the Bible. In 2017, on her 21st birthday, after going through no easy struggle, Sri made a commitment to become a disciple of Jesus.
Now Sri wants to do many things for God. After graduating in March 2020, she was busy looking for work. Yet in the midst of that struggle, Sri remained consistent in serving in the Song Ministry, mentoring several Teens, and taking part in other spiritual activities.
Her work as a private tutor was temporarily halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. And, since the activities of the Song Ministry were reduced because worship services were held online, Sri had the opportunity to take up serving as a teacher in Kerajaan Kanak-Kanak (Sunday School).
In June 2020, once again on her birthday, Sri got a job at an office in Pangkalpinang. This was truly amazing, because during the pandemic many people had to lose their jobs. Truly, God has many ways of giving the best to His faithful children. Amen!
