Given the Opportunity Once Again to Find God
A person’s journey in seeking God sometimes has to go through winding roads, but it will not end in vain. This is the experience of Lina, a sister from Singles & Professionals Ministry at Jemaat Nias.
From childhood, Lina grew up to be an independent girl. Her father died when Lina was still in elementary school, and her mother left her and her sibling just like that, never giving any news. After that, Lina and her sibling were raised by their aunt. Strict upbringing and unfair treatment because they had no parents made Lina grow into a person who was independent and steadfast.
Lina came to know GKDI in 2010, when she worked as a preschool assistant at the Nias branch of the HOPE Foundation. During the approximately two years she worked there, she was often invited to worship and join church activities. However, at that time she did not yet want to be tied to any community, because she still wanted to enjoy her freedom.
After her sibling got married, Lina lived alone in a small rented house. Over the next ten years, the sister never grew tired of coming to visit and asking how she was doing. Even though Lina often avoided them, they kept loving her. So, even though at that time she did not yet want to study the word, she still often attended worship services.
In 2020, Lina was again invited to study God’s word, and this time, she agreed. She is grateful because Jesus’ disciples always loved her, just as God loved her so much and never left her. It was proven that, once again, she was given the opportunity to find God, even though all this time she had wasted her time on things that were not good.
Lina made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus and was baptized on Sunday, 29 March 2020. She is grateful to be able to become part of the Kingdom of God. At present, Lina gives private lessons to elementary school children and also helps teach children with special needs.
Lina’s hope is that, through her life as a disciple, she can win other souls by loving them. She also hopes to have a character like Christ’s, gentle toward others. Especially now that her mother, who had left the family for so long, suddenly came to see Lina. At present, she lives with Lina, who continues to pray to be enabled to forgive and sincerely accept her mother. And, so that one day, she can be helped to become a disciple of Jesus. Amen!
