3 Duties of a True Leader

Jesus was not part of the Jewish leadership structure; in fact, He was truly an enemy of the formal leadership of that time. Institutionally He was not a leader or a teacher, yet did He need recognition that He was the true leader?

No one can deny that He was a true leader. A leader's success can be seen from the number of followers. Jesus' example of life has been followed by many people from long ago until today. His character has always been imitated by humanity from generation to generation. When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to Jesus, and with a word He drove out the spirits and healed those who were suffering from sickness. This happened so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “He took up our weaknesses and bore our diseases.” – Matthew 8:16-17 Not merely because He is the Son of God, but because the quality of divinity in Him is so great that He became the standard and example for humanity. People tend to follow a leader who promises common things such as fame, wealth, and so on. But Jesus promises life change to His followers. Something uncommon, yet profoundly influential.

A leader certainly has duties, and those duties are certainly not small matters. The duties carried by a leader will affect the quality of his teaching, and ultimately the quality of his followers. Let us learn a leader's duties from Jesus, the true leader.

The Duties of a True Leader

1. To Bear and Carry

As prophesied by the prophet Jeremiah, Jesus is the One who bears and carries our weaknesses and sicknesses. This is the attitude we must have if we want to follow Him and become leaders like Him.

Indeed, this may seem difficult to do because it will push us into areas we do not like. Yet this very principle will bring change to those who see it or receive it. For example, do we not prefer a leader who comes down and works with dirty hands rather than a leader who only sits and gives orders without doing anything?

Let us look at what we can do for others. Try to meet their needs before asking anything from them. Focus on others, not on yourself.

2. To Heal

The Lord healed those who came to Him. Our duty as well is to heal those who come to us. Of course, not to heal those who are physically sick, but to heal the various struggles they have in life. Be a hope for them, just as the Lord is hope for us.

Once again, healing is not the same as treating. Others can also treat and comfort a grieving heart. But healing someone until they recover 100% is what the Lord expects.

to bring peace and spiritual restoration to everyone is the goal for us. Every time we face those who need help, we must be eager to help them, not stressed by the problems they have.

3. To Finish

Not only help, but finish everything. Try looking back, about how many tasks have we started but never finished? What would happen if we completed them? What change would happen in the lives of those we help? What character would be formed?

The Lord always shows an extraordinary example of finishing everything He begins. The cry “It is finished” that He shouted on the cross is proof that He was willing to finish something, no matter how difficult it was. That should be our goal in helping everyone who needs us.
