Restoring Her Relationship with Her Father by Seriously Following God

Holding on to the commitment to follow Jesus is not always easy, but God can work in wonderful ways for those who hope in Him. We are grateful and praise God because in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nias Congregation received good news once again. On Sunday, April 19, 2020, one more soul was added, single sister named Vera who was won for God's Kingdom in Nias.

This mathematics graduate from one of Medan's public universities has been working for seven years at a school for children with special needs (autism and intellectual disabilities). Even though her profession is not in line with her college major, Vera has continued to pursue and enjoy her work to this day. She wants to help and give hope to children with physical limitations, so that they can receive the same education as other children.

Vera came to know GKDI in 2019 through a sister from Married Ministry at a beauty salon in Gunungsitoli. Although at first she often declined invitations to attend Sunday worship, Vera eventually agreed to come.

Vera's journey of learning the Bible, which began in mid-2019, was marked by ups and downs. There were times when she wanted to stop studying, because she was in a special relationship and often in conflict with her boyfriend. However, Vera always returned to her commitment, because she felt the love of the sister who did not give up on helping her and continually encouraging her.

One of Vera's biggest struggles was how to repair her broken relationship with her father. For six years, she had never communicated with him. The reason was that several years earlier, she had made a mistake so great that it made her father ashamed, disappointed, and angry with her.

After Vera decided to be serious about studying the Bible, she tried contacting her family back in her hometown. It turned out that her father himself answered the phone and asked how she was doing. From that moment on, their relationship began to improve. Vera was overjoyed and grateful because God is so good, restoring her relationship with the father she loves.

Vera is grateful that God chose her to be part of His kingdom, and she admires the way God has worked in her life. Her longing now is that one day her family can be won to become disciples of Jesus. She also wants to be a blessing in her workplace and to be given a life partner who loves God. Amen!
