Overcoming Insecurity with True Security

Overcoming Insecurity with True Security

Once I watched an interview featuring a woman who had formerly presented herself as a man, but eventually returned to her God-given identity. Her reason was to gain a sense of safety and comfort. When she “played the role” of a man, she felt more confident, more accepted, and free from having to worry about makeup or achieving the body shape the world considers ideal.

Not everyone goes through such an extreme change, but fundamentally, many people feel insecure (insecure) with themselves. Why is that?

Where Is the Source of Your Security?

aman - gkdi 1

Do not love the world or anything in it. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. – 1 Yohanes 2:15

And this world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. – 1 Yohanes 2:17

A lack of security is rooted in low self-confidence. So why are we so prone to becoming inferior and always needing acceptance from others?

Because, without realizing it, we let our self-worth be determined by how our surroundings and other people treat us. Yet your self-worth, or who you are, is not determined by how others treat you.

Many people place certain things as the source of their security. For example, career, education, achievements, intelligence, wealth, beauty, social circles, a boyfriend or girlfriend, friends, ownership of luxury goods, or themselves as the center of attention.

What do you gain from finding security in the things above? Clearly, you will become addicted. You will constantly want to show off and prove yourself, always wanting to be acknowledged and accepted. If you only feel secure because of beauty or good looks, you will never be satisfied with your appearance, no matter how well you polish yourself. If you only feel secure because many people praise you, or because you move in certain circles, your need to be admired will never come to an end.

The Wrong Source of Security

For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living water, to dig their own cisterns, cracked cisterns that can hold no water. – Yeremia 2:13

Looking for your security in worldly things is like building a cistern with cracked walls. That means you will always end up feeling insecure again and again. Even if you already have a good career, great achievements, and a life partner who seems nearly perfect in looks and wealth, you will still feel that something is missing. You are never satisfied or full.

Some people work hard so they can succeed quickly, because they want to prove to their parents, their environment, and their friends that they are impressive. As a result, they are willing to do anything for success, no matter if it damages their relationship with God. There are also people who stay busy proving themselves through countless achievements in order to gain recognition and acceptance from others.

For single people, the factor of security has a major influence on how they view future relationships. Some are willing to leave the faith because they already feel safe and comfortable with the one they love. Or, for the sake of the person they long for, they are willing to leave the congregation and ignore God’s word concerning an equally yoked life partner.

If the source of your security is in the wrong place, your satisfaction will only be filled for a moment. After that, you are empty and hollow again.

The True Source of Security

aman - gkdi 3

“But whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never thirst again. Instead, the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” – Yohanes 4:14

Your security must come from the Lord, the Living Water who not only relieves thirst for a moment, but gives satisfaction forever.

With the true source of security, you will be calm and at peace. You will not be afraid of being rejected or unrecognized. You will not be easily shaken by temptation and persuasion. Whatever others say about you, and whatever your parents’ demands or your environment’s judgments may be, they will not be able to bring down your confidence.

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. – Mazmur 4:8

He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. – Mazmur 62:2

You do not need to prove yourself to be loved and accepted by God. Because when you were weak and helpless, God had already loved you (Romans 5:6).

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, and what I give is not as the world gives to you. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid. – Yohanes 14:27

The true source of security will not make you fearful and anxious. Place the source of your security in God, so that joy and peace may always fill your life. Amen. - Church GKDI is currently present in 35 cities. We have Bible Study activities in every area; if you need information or would like to get involved, contact us at contact Church GKDI Official: WhatsApp 0821 2285 8686 or Facebook / Instagram GKDI Official
