Do These 4 Things to Stay Enthusiastic in the New Year

Enthusiasm for the new year! Wait, that’s not right. It should be, “Happy New Year.” But that’s not wrong either. As we enter a new year, we really should be enthusiastic. Are you also excited in this new year?
Or are there still things weighing on your heart so that you do not feel excited to go through the new year? Need a boost of enthusiasm? So that we can all be even more enthusiastic, the following things may help you. Come on, let’s look at 4 tips for staying enthusiastic in the new year!
4 Tips for Staying Enthusiastic in the New Year
1. Make Peace with Yourself
Do you feel unenthusiastic about entering the new year? Why? Is it because targets were not achieved last year? Failures or mistakes you made last year? Or perhaps you are starting to get tired, because there has been no change that is significant in your life from year to year?
If that happens to you, perhaps you still cannot accept and also move on from the things that have happened in your life. However, to be able to move forward enthusiastically in the new year, you must make peace with yourself.
Forget your failures, your mistakes in the past. If there were still things that were not good last year, there is still an opportunity this year. God gives us 365 new days, a blank sheet of paper, ready to be filled with many better things. Give your best effort in everything, this year.
If we do not deal with ourselves and there are still many burdens in our hearts, how can we move forward with enthusiasm? Let go of all those burdens and let yourself walk in faith with God.
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have taken hold of it yet, but this is what I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. – Philippians 3:13
2. Think About Positive Things
What is in your mind every day? Do you think that today will be wonderful? Have you already planned that you will do good today?
Or do you feel small, not valuable, unable, incapable? Is it, “I am not good enough,” “I will not succeed,” or “No one loves me”? What words do you say every day in your heart?
If our minds are dominated by negativewords, how can we be enthusiastic in this new year?
Negative self-talk or negative words that we say to ourselves are very dangerous. They can make us lose motivation, lower our capacity, cause stress, depression, and also damage relationships with other people.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, whatever is called virtue and worthy of praise, think about these things. – Philippians 4:8
Replacing negative thoughts with positive ones is indeed not easy, especially if it is already deeply ingrained. But we need to break that chain. Every time those negative thoughts come, replace them with positive thoughts. God died on the cross to give us a life full of hope. Let us think about all things that are positive!
3. Set Goals and Make Plans
And press on toward the goal to win the prize, namely the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 3:14
Life without a goal is like people playing ball without a goalpost.
Have you ever seen people play soccer without a goalpost? Would the players be excited to play? What about the spectators? If I were invited to play or watch a soccer match without a goalpost, I definitely would not want to. Because it would clearly make no sense and would only waste time .
Paul was someone whose life had a clear goal He wanted to receive the prize, namely the heavenly call from God. And in his life, he also made clear plans Where he would go to preach the gospel today, then where he would go next, it was all planned.
What is your life goal? What is your plan for this year? What things do you want to achieve? As a follower of Christ, what kind of character do you want to grow? To have a year full of enthusiasm, you need to know the goals and plans that support your purpose. Without them, you will be like playing ball without a goalpost.
4. Carry Out Your Plan
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth. – Proverbs 10:4
The goal has been set. The plan has been made. What next? Without diligently doing what you have planned, everything will be in vain.
I once heard a seminar discussing Albert Einstein’s law of relativity, namely E = mc2. E is energy. M is mass (weight). Meanwhile, c is the speed of light, whose unit is m/s, the same as the unit of speed.
Connected to everyday life, we get energy or enthusiasm when we do something (when there is movement or activity). So that energy will appear as we do activities or our part.
I used to think the opposite. I had to be enthusiastic first, had to gather motivation first before starting something. If the enthusiasm was not there yet, usually I was reluctant to start. This theory gave me a new perspective. We need to do it first; after that, after we see the results, then we will be enthusiastic.
For example, would we not become more enthusiastic if we reached our ideal body weight because we exercised regularly? Would we not become more enthusiastic if we received a raise, if our business was booming, got good grades, or our work was liked by many people? But before reaching that point, there must surely be effort made. There is consistent effort made, even when what we do has not yet produced results.
Maybe at first, when we start something, that enthusiasm is not always there. But we must keep doing it until we get the results. Those results are what will give extraordinary energy and enthusiasm to do even more.
It’s one thing to KNOW what we should do, but results come when we DO the things we know we should do. It is one thing to know what we should do. But results come when we do the things we know we should do.
New year, new enthusiasm! To be enthusiastic, we must be able to make peace with ourselves, think about positive things, set goals, and make plans. And also, do every single thing we have planned. Happy entering the new year, 2022. Let us move forward enthusiastically with God! Keep your spirit up!
