Good News from the Palembang Congregation - Daniel

Wanting to Live to Please God

Challenges and rejection often confront those who try to live rightly. This is what Daniel experienced, a student at one of the polytechnics in the city of Palembang.

Daniel’s introduction to Christian life began with his interest in the life of Hotman, an upperclassman, who was different from most students. That was the first time Daniel saw the lifestyle of a disciple of Jesus, which was not very popular in the eyes of the public. When he saw a female student, his friend, studying God’s word, Daniel became curious and wanted to join her. Over time, through his friendship with Hotman, he also became interested in getting to know Christ more deeply.

Bible Study for Daniel at first went smoothly. However, in the middle of the process, a number of challenges caused him not to continue the lessons. Daniel faced a dilemma when he saw his friend decide to stop studying the word.

The second challenge came when his commitment was growing strong again. His mother and family members did not approve of what he was doing. As an only child from a less harmonious family, so that his mother had to raise Daniel on her own, this rejection was certainly a heavy obstacle.

For several weeks, Daniel stopped studying and was hard to find. In his struggle, he questioned why he had to face such a difficult situation, when Bible Study was not something wrong.

Daniel then returned to living his old life. However, he felt uneasy seeing the lifestyle of his friends, and also with the way he had treated God before. It turned out that the truth of God’s word that he had once received from Bible Study had changed, to some extent, his way of viewing life.

At one point, Daniel felt lonely. His life seemed to be going nowhere, and he no longer enjoyed his old lifestyle. Daniel longed for the days when he was so loved and accepted in a warm community, where he received the saving truth of God’s word.

All the prayers, love, friendship, support, and care given by Hotman and the other disciples made Daniel realize something: the community of Jesus’ disciples is the right place to live the life one is meant to live. A life not for himself, but for Christ who was willing to die for him.

Daniel finally returned to studying the word and opened himself to every piece of input and correction. He dared to face his fears and worries about his mother’s response, because he saw many young people his age going through similar challenges, yet still fighting to live rightly.

On June 2, 2019, after nine months of attending Bible Study, Daniel made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus. For him, God is first, and he wants to keep living to please His heart. - Church GKDI is currently present in 35 cities. We have Bible Study activities in every area; if you need information or would like to get involved, contact us at contact Church GKDI Official: WhatsApp 0821 2285 8686 or Facebook / Instagram GKDI Official
