WOW (Woman of Worth) Conference Bekasi

In this era of globalization, working women are a common sight, especially in big cities. More women are gaining recognition in the professional world, even climbing the corporate ladder. Not infrequently, their career opportunities run parallel with the responsibility of managing the household, whether as daughters, wives, or mothers.

However, World Bank research reveals that the number of working women is far lower than that of men. Only four out of ten workers are women. This fact is often used to justify the view that women’s roles are still not as important as men’s in various aspects of life.

Whether consciously or not, this also often leads women to see themselves as lesser than the opposite sex. Even worse, than fellow women. Workplace competition and social pressure also distort the public’s perception of what a true woman should be. A woman feels the need to struggle to ‘raise’ her worth, whether physically, behaviorally, or intellectually, before she is worthy of being fully loved and accepted.

Beyond personal conflicts, women also face a variety of issues. From family and marriage problems, the desire to leave unhealthy relationships or addictions, to confusion about setting life goals. Perhaps they want to do something for society, but are hindered by circumstances and conditions. They may long to know God, but do not know how.

This awareness of the importance of women’s roles across communities prompted GKDI Bekasi Women Ministry to hold the event WOW (Woman of Worth).

Through WOW, we help open society’s eyes, especially women’s, to the fact that they are deeply valuable. We want women to understand their true worth, as stated in 1 Peter 3:3-4:

“Do not let your adornment be merely outward, such as elaborate hairstyles, the wearing of gold jewelry, or fine clothes, but let your adornment be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is very precious in God’s sight.” What is WOW? Every year, GKDI celebrates Women’s Day with a different theme. This year’s “WOW” theme centers on how women view themselves. Here, we will explore:

• The difference between what the world says and the true truth about a woman
• The ins and outs of outer and inner beauty—a charm that every woman deserves and is able to have
• How to live according to God’s will, through women’s participation in the family, workplace, and society

Through WOW, we hope women will be increasingly motivated to create and contribute in every area of life, as an expression of their love for God, family, and others.

From women for women WOW Conference will feature a number of speakers who will share their experiences and knowledge about being a true woman in God. Among them are: Karen McDonald Louis For more than 30 years, Karen has served in various professions and ministries to help women in several countries, such as Japan, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Together with her husband, Karen created several family-life programs and wrote several books, including Good Enough Parenting and I Choose Us. This woman, who holds a master’s degree in counseling, is a consultant for HOPE Worldwide Singapore and helps parents through Film Therapy presentations, as well as family intervention.

Victoria Margaretha Analeu

Victoria is a graduate of Prof. Dr. Moestopo University. In addition to serving full-time as the Women’s Leader at GKDI Bekasi, Victoria is also a HOPE Worldwide ambassador who helps underprivileged children throughout Indonesia.

Tracy Tania A graduate of the University of Indonesia, she once built her career at prominent law firms in Singapore and Jakarta. In 2016, Tracy received a full scholarship for postgraduate study in international business law at New York University, United States. She is currently working as a senior associate.

Regina Ivanova

Regina is the winner of Indonesian Idol 2012 and the 2014 AMI Award in the Best Dance/Electro Dance Production category for her album titled “Kemenangan”. She has collaborated with many musicians and artists, such as David Foster, David Cook, Ruben Studdard, Nicole Scherzinger “The Pussycat Dolls”, All For One, and Shane Filan “Westlife”.

Sonia Louis Sonia spent her childhood in Singapore and Southeast Asia before pursuing her undergraduate studies in London, where she met her husband, TJ. The two then decided to build their careers in Singapore and learn from the church. In 2016, they moved to Jakarta to help counsel young people, as well as start an English Ministry for singles, premarital couples, and married couples. Sonia is currently pursuing a master’s degree in counseling at Monash University.

Nowela The first winner of Indonesian Idol 2014 was an ambassador for the Indonesia Reading Movement Literacy in 2016. In addition to being active in HOPE Worldwide Indonesia and Indonesia Cerdas, Nowela is also the host of the vlog series “The Papeda Goes to Korea”.
