Good News from the Surabaya Congregation - Ai Giok

Ai Giok is a sister from the PIWA Ministry (Godly Men & Women of God) who is now 71 years old. She was baptized in September 1994 after studying God’s Word for three months.

At first, Ai Giok joined the congregation simply because she was following her child. But over time, she felt that this community was deeply earnest in making sure each of its members had a close relationship with God and lived out His word.

At that time, Ai Giok worked from 9 in the morning until 8 at night to support the lives of her four children. This left her with no extra time for God apart from Sunday worship and midweek fellowship. Her work and the responsibility of caring for her family meant that for some time she could only keep buried her longing to serve God.

After all four of her children graduated from college, got married, and had better lives, Ai Giok entered retirement. Since 2013, Ai Giok has begun to enjoy her later years and fulfill her dream of serving God. Every day, she wakes up at four in the morning to pray, inspired by Jesus, who rose and prayed while it was still dark.

Not only does she give ten percent of the money she receives from her children to God, but Ai Giok also dedicates ten percent of her time each day to prayer and quiet time. Besides giving her tithe, she sets aside money from her children’s gifts to help other women study the word and know the truth. She does not mind even though the distance she must travel to reach them is quite far, requiring her to take public transportation or a motorcycle taxi. Ai Giok’s greatest joy is seeing the people she helps transformed and receive the Word of God.

Ai Giok is very grateful that with the PIWA Ministry, senior adults can continue serving God even with limited strength and ability. Besides faithfully attending regular PIWA meetings and serving as a mentor, Ai Giok actively teaches the Bible, accompanies others in prayer, and visits and prays for those who are struggling with illness. She also joins the intercessory prayer team that brings comfort in homes of mourning.

Now Ai Giok rejoices and is full of zeal because her dream of serving God has been fulfilled. She is grateful that she is still given time and a healthy body so that she can continue taking part in ministry as a response to the time she wasted in the past. For Ai Giok, the health she has today is an opportunity to keep serving because no one knows how much time remains. And she will continue serving God until her time comes.
