Good News from the Pematangsiantar Congregation - Siska

The Lord Counts Every Perseverance

It is truly hard to imagine how God can come and reveal Himself to every person who seeks Him. That is what sister Siska Sidabutar, the first of three children from the Pematangsiantar Congregation.

The year 2014 was a difficult season for Siska. At that time, she had a bad relationship with her father, while her mother suffered from disease cancer. In the midst of her life struggles, Siska thought she needed to find a friend who could understand her feelings, someone who made her feel comfortable. She then remembered a college friend from the past who was already a disciple of Jesus.

After sharing a great deal about her situation, sister this invited Siska to a Sunday worship service. Since she did not like socializing, Siska did not have many friends, and because of that, she felt joyful when she came to know and feel the love of the congregation. Even though she had to travel more than an hour from her home to the place of worship, Siska always attended every meeting with great enthusiasm. 

During this period, Siska also experienced an incident that made her afraid and ashamed to leave the house. Her father had an affair with one of their neighbors, then ran away out of town to avoid the anger of the woman's family. At this lowest point in her life, the sisters never stopped supporting and loving her. This is what kept Siska strong and led her to decide to study the Bible. 

A life full of struggles led Siska to know God and to have a different view of life. It is no wonder that she was able to carry out each step of her repentance in an extraordinary way, including by forgiving and loving her father.

In November  2014, Siska was baptized, and in December 2016, she got married. After living as a disciple of Jesus, Siska continued to love her father, who lived out of town, by sharing her faith with him over the phone. However, her father was not yet ready to receive help, until in April 2018, he passed away from disease of the stomach. Siska then invited her mother to study the Bible, but in April 2019, she passed away before she could complete her studies.

In the midst of repeated grief that struck, Siska remained diligent in evangelizing her family. In August 2019, she invited her youngest sibling, Nova, who was on college break, to study the Bible. God worked in an extraordinary way, and within a month, Nova was also baptized.

Truly, the way God works is amazing, as He takes account of every effort of those who proclaim His word. Even though her parents died before they could complete their study of the faith, God gave Siska the victory of seeing her younger sibling's conversion, who has now also become a disciple of Jesus. 

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm, do not be shaken, and always be diligent in the work of the Lord! For you know that in fellowship with the Lord your labor is not in vain. – 1 Corinthians 15:58
