The Secret to a Full Life in the Lord for Single Women

Many women believe that once they have found a life partner, gotten married, and had children, their lives will be full. They have become whole women. Then, when they reach their thirties but have still not gotten married, they begin to panic, fear, worry, and become insecure. Family, relatives, acquaintances, and friends begin to question their status. They are labeled old maids, undesirable, even leftover women (leftover women).
This situation certainly becomes a heavy burden for women who are still unmarried at a fairly mature. Not a few eventually become determined to find a life partner in order to “improve” their status. Why? So that they will be considered normal. So their parents will not lose face. So their lives will be perfect, so that they are happy and free from social pressures.
However, is it really true that a woman's life can only be called full once she is married? What does the word of God say about this?
Fullness According to God's Teaching
I say this not because I am in need, for I have learned to be content in every circumstance. – Philippians 4:11
The Bible teaches us as believers to learn to be content in every circumstance. In other words, God never says that a woman will only be full in her life when she is married and has children.
So, what does “full” mean according to God's word? Fullness here is a sense of security and peace with God, because you understand that He is the One who holds control over everything that happens in your life .
If in the end you find a life partner, you can be grateful for it by enjoying your married life. Yet even if you must remain single forever, you will not be anxious. You will not feel that anything is lacking or imperfect in your life, because you enjoy life under the shelter of God's hand, full of love.
In fact, during your single years, you can focus on serving God, and not only fixate on other things, such as a partner, career, money, and so on. God is already enough for you; He makes you full and lacking in nothing.
But godliness with contentment is great gain. – 1 Timothy 6:6
Wrong Perceptions of Fullness
I know what it is to have little, and I know what it is to have abundance. In every matter and in all things I have learned the secret: whether to be full or to be hungry, whether to have plenty or to be in need. I can endure all things through Him who gives me strength. – Philippians 4:12-13
There are people who feel full when they are successful, extremely wealthy, famous, and have everything they want. But in truth human beings will never truly feel satisfied. You who are single want to get married, while those who are already married wish they were still single. You want to be rich; rich people want to be even richer. You want to be successful, and successful people want to be happy.
The fact is, chasing satisfaction and fullness in this world will always make you feel lacking. As a result, you never feel satisfied even though you have already obtained what you dreamed of. If so, what mindset should we have as believers?
Paul says that when he was full or had abundance, he learned to adjust himself to live in abundance. Likewise, when he was in need, he would not complain or worry excessively. Paul learned to still feel full in lack, namely by surrendering and entrusting his life into the hands of Almighty God.
And God is able to pour out every grace upon you, so that you may always have all sufficiency in everything and even abound in every good work. – 2 Corinthians 9:8
The Secret to a Full Life in the Lord
1. Rejoice
Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say: Rejoice! – Philippians 4:4First, you must rejoice. Yes, rejoice in every circumstance, whether good or bad, hard or happy. Whether your dreams are fulfilled or not. Whether you have a partner or do not have one. Because the Lord is the owner of your life, He will give you overflowing joy, while you wait for His will to come to pass in your life.
2. Do Not Worry
Do not be anxious about anything.... – Philippians 4:6a
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you, and what I give is not like what the world gives to you. Do not let your heart be troubled or afraid. – John 14:27
Even though life feels heavy and your dreams are far from reality, do not worry. God's word tells us not to worry about anything, whether it is about a life partner, career, or our future. We should learn to feel the peace of God because we are sure that He always cares for and watches over us.
3. Tell Your Desires to God
But in everything make your requests known to God by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving. – Philippians 4:6bOf course there is nothing wrong if you want to have a life partner, to be successful, or to do well in your career or studies. What matters is that these things do not become the focus or priority of your life. When you tell your desires to God, let His will be done. Decide not to depend on God's answers to prayer, but trust that He understands you, your desires, and all your longings and hopes.
The LORD will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in dry places, and He will renew your strength; you will be like a well-watered garden and like a spring whose waters never fail. – Isaiah 58:11
4. Always Be Thankful
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and my soul knows it very well. – Psalm 139:14
Keep giving thanks whatever your condition is right now. There is no need to compare yourself with other people who are more successful. Who are accomplished. Who are wealthier. Who already have a wife / a husband and children. Trust in God; even in difficult circumstances, He is able to fulfill His promises and reveal His perfect plan for your life.
Do not focus only on what you do not have, but be grateful for what you have received. Count the Lord's blessings every day in your life, and be thankful because your name is written in the book of life!
Lastly, you will not feel full if you are far from God. Therefore, draw near to Him. Know God more deeply through His word, and search out His plan for your life.
