Restored for Christ's Work
An unhealthy way of seeing life can quietly lead us into negative things. Rio, a law student at one of the universities in Palangka Raya, realized this after coming to know God. At first, he became addicted to cigarettes because he thought smoking could increase a person’s creativity and productivity.
At the beginning of 2019, he was invited by a brother who was in the same major and class year as him to a Bible Discussion Meeting (PDA) at Jemaat Palangka Raya. After that, he welcomed the invitation to join Bible Study. During his study, Rio saw that there were a number of perspectives on life that he needed to change, including the idea that smoking could make him more diligent and creative.
After several months of studying the word, Rio witnessed many changes in himself. He began building a relationship with God through prayer and quiet time, and decided to stop smoking. From previously driving without a license, because he thought it was unimportant, he got his driver’s license without paying a bribe, even though he had to take the test many times. Rio also left behind his habit of procrastinating, which had once caused his studies to be neglected.
All these changes strengthened his resolve to become a disciple of Jesus, and in early June 2019, Rio was baptized. Now he has a desire to serve and help the lives of others through the guidance of the word. Because he understands carpentry, he often helps install equipment at places of worship / church.
With a willing heart to learn, Rio is also involved in Song Ministry and a number of other tasks. At present, he is also undergoing training to become a leader. We hope Rio continues to grow as a disciple, and can keep serving and inspiring many people for the glory of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
