Many young people eventually leave church because they feel their talents have no place there. Their ideas are seen as worldly notions. But who says having amazing talents is not part of being God’s child?
Do you have many gifts and want your talent to be used to serve God? Still confused about how your gifts can glorify His name? Try some of these things; they might help you.
1. Discover your talent
Discover your talent and find out what your great gift can do for worship or ministry. There is no talent that is useless for the church. Sometimes a talent people consider very worldly actually has a place in God’s heart. Because everything comes from Him.Every talent matters to God. For example, if you are gifted in sports or exercise, why not hold a morning exercise event for seniors or retirement groups? This will give them enthusiasm for life, and as a bonus, the church will always be lively.
The point is, do not hesitate to propose ideas for creating activities that fit your gifts. If your idea is rejected, maybe you only need to explain the reasons, along with proof that the idea has been used in other places.
2. Invite others to support your talent
After you know what your gift is, invite others to get involved in the activity you create. After all, a group of people will help your talent grow more quickly. Your friends may also be moved to take part in your talent. There is nothing wrong with sharing your gift outside the church so that other children of God will also be inspired by your skill.
3. Practice more often and seriously
It is no excuse to give an ordinary performance before God without practice. Sometimes we think, “Ah, God understands.”Why don’t we think the other way around? “I will offer this talent to God, and therefore I will practice harder. More diligently than when I show my talent outside the church.”
Believe me, your hard work will be repaid with fitting blessings. Remember the parable about the talents. Offering your best to God will never make you lose out.
“For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance.” (Mat 25:29)
4. Think about the impact of your talent; do not focus on the challenges
Even in the church, you will still find many challenges. It is not true that creating for the church makes everything easy and smooth. You will still run into many things that can sometimes make you upset. However, do not focus on the challenges. Direct your mind to the greater goal: your talent will bring great change to the church. You do everything to please God. That way, you will not give up easily.
5. Learn from the experts
Look for people around you or members of the church who are experts in your talent. Learning from them will make your gift grow rapidly. You will gain new techniques that you can develop further on your own. Besides that, learning from experts will make you more humble. You will come to know many things that must be learned so that your ability increases sharply.6. Pray
After all your efforts have been made, do not forget to surrender them in prayer. Pray not only that your talent will be directed for God’s glory, but also that you will remain strong and remember that every talent is not about you, but about God’s greatness.“Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.” (Ams 16:3)
Now, you no longer have any reason to say that your gift is only suitable to be developed outside the church. Your talent is actually very much needed to develop ministry. How many people return their talents to the church? Very few. So, you will become a person who inspires your other friends.
