Do These 7 Signs of a Happy Family Already Exist in Your Family?

Building a happy family means building a sense of optimism at all times. Loving one another without limits and without conditions.

"Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother--this is an important commandment, as is clear from this promise: so that you may be happy and live long on the earth." - Ephesians 6:1-3

A family is a small team that can see one another's needs. So, what do happy families do?

1. Happy families always have unique traditions or rituals

Does your family have a unique tradition that other families may not do? For example, watching a movie together at home every Friday night? With the movie chosen in turns. Or making a new recipe on Saturday morning with unplanned ingredients? Maybe for parents this does not seem very important. But for children, these are stories they will show off to all their friends, even into adulthood. Speaking of traditions, happy families are also able to honor the older ones and appreciate the younger ones. Moments of gathering together and giving each other gifts are things that do not shift even as times change. There is an emotional bond that is maintained for years. Across every generation. Having traditions also means holding on to good values that are nurtured within the family.

2. Happy families often gather around the dining table

When was the last time you all gathered at one table? Eating something delicious while sharing stories. Of course, everyone has an equal share in telling their story. Happy families are able to place every family member as a contributor in decision-making. According to research, most healthy families actually have the habit of eating dinner together. Or if there is no time for dinner, breakfast can replace it. It may be a little troublesome. But being busy together is enjoyable too. Having a lot of time at the dining table also means having plenty of time to see each family member up close. Closeness can enable us to read desires that are left unspoken. When a child asks for a bicycle, it may be that what they really want is more time to play. It could be that they are feeling inferior to their friends. Knowing the real truth helps parents choose the value that most needs to be taught.

3. Having a Collection of Fun Games

Happy families have a regular schedule just to play ball or go swimming. Playing cards with a penalty for the loser also brings fun stories to the family. Once in a while, you can also hunt for fun outdoor games to change the atmosphere. Playtime is when everyone can relax and unwind. It is easier to get to know one another when we are happy. Who is your child's new friend? What does he dislike about you? Have the meals lately been very delicious, or are the children starting to get bored? Everything can be explored without offending one another.

4. Doing everything as bonding time

The activity of cleaning the house, although it sometimes feels annoying, is very good for strengthening family ties. A happy family is a family that makes cleaning time an opportunity to talk and ask one another for help. This will also make the whole family understand what it means to be siblings. The more we understand what it means to be one family, one home, the more easily words like this are heard: "Yes, it really is hard. I was like that too when I was in first grade. Just try finding other friends like I did."

"There's a discount on basketballs at the store. Big Sis has to go there, right? Your ball is already broken."

A form of care that appears because we already know one another well.

5. Having the habit of reflecting or praying together

No matter what religion or belief, having time together to pray or reflect is very important. This will make family members understand one another. Children will learn to be grateful and thankful for everything they receive.

Praying for one another and correcting ourselves also speaks about conviction. About faith. Children who are always taught about the greatness of the Creator will learn to value other creatures just as well. They will see other creatures as unique beings. Serving other creatures can be an alternative choice for building faith. Children will know that all human beings have limitations. Everyone needs other people to live, even if you provide them with every facility.

"But if you consider it not good to worship the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will worship; the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live. But as for me and my household, we will worship the LORD!" - Joshua 24:15

6. Give hugs as often and as much as possible

Happy families are used to giving as many hugs as possible. If family members do not hesitate to hug one another, then when difficult things come, each person can become a supporter for the others. The phrase, 'we are one family,' becomes very strong. Families that enjoy a lot of touch will be much healthier and more vulnerable to stress.

Giving a lot of touch, especially to young children, is a signal that they are loved unconditionally. Children are not yet able to process many words, nor the emotions that suddenly arise within them. Giving more touch and fewer words will make them feel loved and accepted whatever their condition.

7. Laughing together

Finding material to laugh about does not always have to come from something far away or outside. Families who spend a lot of time together will automatically have many things they can turn into something funny. For example, laughing at Mom's silly behavior in a clothing store, or imitating little brother's voice when he has a cold. Close families often have strange nicknames for one another. The flirt, the glutton, the hero. The uniqueness of these names gives the family an identity that is different from other families.

So, how about it? Do these characteristics already exist in your family? If not, give them a try. Are there unique things your family does to become a happy family? You may share them with us at this link. If you feel that you have not yet experienced a happy family, we also have the best solution for you.
