Good News from the Magelang Congregation - Loren & Demas

Build a Holy Relationship for God's Glory
One of the challenges for couples preparing for marriage is maintaining a pure relationship. Although it is not easy, Loren and Demas, disciples of Jesus from Yogyakarta who joined the evangelistic mission in Magelang, continue striving to keep that commitment. Baptized together on June 24, 2018, Loren and Demas were elementary school friends who later started dating in college. At present, Demas works in information technology, and Loren teaches at an elementary school.
Demas and Loren's participation in the evangelistic mission in Magelang was driven by their desire to learn to be independent before marriage. Moving to Magelang and living far from their parents helped both of them grow in many areas of life. Demas's decision to join the mission taught him the meaning of responsibility and hard work. Likewise, Loren, a diligent person, a hard worker, and someone who always gives more in serving, has now become a more independent and creative woman.
Nearly a year after they joined the mission, good news came to the Magelang Congregation. On August 10, 2019, after being in a relationship for four years, Demas proposed to Loren, with the congregation as witnesses. Demas, together with the brothers and sisters in the congregation, made this proposal moment very special and romantic for Loren. In fact, several members of the congregation from Yogyakarta also came to attend the event.
Previously, Loren had worried whether she was ready to marry at a young age. However, she was grateful because there were many sisters in the congregation who gave her perspective on what a right relationship looks like. As a dating couple, one of their greatest challenges after becoming disciples of Jesus was how to date in holiness. They had to commit to guarding purity and building a relationship that strengthened each other in the Lord. Loren realized that God wanted them to have a holy relationship that could be used for His glory.
The support from the congregation made Loren and Demas no longer hesitate to take their relationship to a more serious level. For Demas, his greatest challenge was convincing his mother that he was ready to become a responsible leader of a family, even though he was still young. Yet he believed that their journey through life with the congregation would help both him and Loren keep growing in the truth. This commitment was also warmly welcomed by both Demas's and Loren's parents.
While preparing themselves for the next step, Demas and Loren showed enthusiasm for learning from the married couples in the congregation. And the two of them believe that as long as they walk with God, there is nothing to fear. Amen!
