Are you thinking about dating? Or are you in a special relationship with someone? Whatever your situation right now, have you ever wondered: What does dating actually mean? What should you do while dating, and what important things need to be built during this period?
Dating is a process in a relationship in which a couple commits to knowing and being known more deeply before entering marriage. Therefore, know the important things you need to build during the dating season:
1. Encourage Each Other to Grow While Dating

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works. – Hebrews 10:24
There are times when people who are dating feel comfortable with their relationship. As a result, they find it hard to see things beyond the relationship itself, as well as the potential that can be developed in themselves and their partner.
What things do you usually notice about your boyfriend or girlfriend? Their appearance? Their status on social media? Their activities? Have you ever asked more deeply, how is his or her relationship with God? What is he or she currently struggling with and praying about? When was the last time you prayed together with your boyfriend or girlfriend?
It is important for us to pay attention to one another and encourage one another in love and good deeds. In that way, you also help your boyfriend or girlfriend grow, and the relationship does not revolve around you alone. Help him or her grow spiritually and in character, as well as in leadership, career, and the way he or she faces the outside world. Surely, both of you will be moved to praise God's greatness all the more.
2. Guard the Purity of Your Relationship While Dating

So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace, together with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. – 2 Timothy 2:22
When we commit to dating, we must keep the relationship pure and holy. The goal is that through the dating relationship, we may bring to life the image of Christ.
I have felt the difference between dating a man who was not serious about building his relationship with God and a man who loves God. Thank God, He led me into a relationship with the second type of man, who is now my boyfriend. We agreed to be serious about nurturing our personal relationship with God and keeping boundaries in our relationship.
We also involve other people in our relationship, such as our mentors or other more mature couples. From them, we can learn a great deal about building a healthy relationship and guarding one another.
Don't be lulled by the thrill of being in love. People who are in love tend to follow feelings rather than logic. If you let your guard down, the devil will seize the opportunity to ruin the relationship with fleshly desires that make your relationship no longer pure.
Make the grace of God the foundation of your dating relationship. If you value God's word, you will certainly value your partner as well.
3. Have the Same Dreams in the Lord

For surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. – Proverbs 23:18
The purpose of dating is to prepare yourselves and get to know each other before making the sacred covenant of marriage. However, before reaching that stage, you must have the same vision and mission as your partner: What kind of life do you want in the future?
The key in a relationship is openness and maintaining communication. Many couples end up hurting each other because they are not open with one another and do not know how to communicate their thoughts and feelings to their partner. They never discuss each other's dreams and how to build them in the Lord.
Believe that in the Lord, there truly is a future and our hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 23:18). You will experience different things when you believe the word above. Lead your partner to walk on the path God desires. Dream as high as possible with him or her in the Lord. You will be amazed to see how God works!
The dating season is a vital stage for learning about and getting to know the person you love before making a covenant of faithfulness. Guard the purity of your relationship, build dreams together with your partner in the Lord, and encourage one another to keep growing. May God bless your relationship!
