Finding Relief in the Lord

A great storm can come at any time in life, but God promises to be with us and to set His best plan in place for us. Andre Siahaan, a brother from Jemaat Jayapura, experienced this himself. In the second year of his marriage, which was blessed with the presence of a child, Andre had to go through a great trial. His father, the owner of a construction services business, became involved in a legal case that ended in a prison sentence for several years. 

Unsurprisingly, Andre's peaceful life was hit as if by a fierce storm. His father's problems also affected his small family. Besides being in prison, it turned out that he had many business debts. One by one, the company's assets had to be sold to pay off those debts. Not only that, there were also very large unpaid taxes, so the house they had been living in was confiscated by the Directorate General of Taxes. 

At the same time, Andre lost his job at a consulting company due to a workforce reduction policy. His wife, Ester, who had been a housewife, eventually took his place as the breadwinner by working at a supermarket.

In the midst of life's turmoil and the sense of despair that Andre faced, God opened a way. Andre read one of the articles published by GKDI Digital Ministry on social media. The contents of the article moved his heart to find out more about what God had planned for his life. Long story short, Andre eventually met the community of Jesus' disciples in Jayapura and wholeheartedly devoted himself to studying God's word. 

Lesson after Bible lesson strengthened Andre as he went through the difficult seasons of his life. He came to understand that God has a plan of peace for him, even in the very worst circumstances. On April 21, 2019, Andre decided to follow Christ and be baptized. At present, his wife Ester is also studying the Bible. Both of them are very grateful to receive strength and see God's power that surpasses every challenge in the world.

Indeed, the words of Jesus in Matthew 11:28 are true: “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.” Praise be to the name of the Lord!
