Jayapura Congregation Good News – Suwanti

THE POWER OF SOCIAL MEDIA

Born in Samarinda on February 28, 1995, Suwanti Bassrain, better known as Wanti, is the first of two siblings. During her childhood, she moved homes quite often. From living with her grandparents, to her uncle and aunt, and finally with her parents in Jayapura. It was in this city that she began college.

In Jayapura, Wanti lived with her mother and stepfather (her biological father had passed away). During her college years, Wanti felt that her life had no clear direction. She often experienced conflict with both of her parents, because they had not lived together for a long time. In addition, Wanti was also full of negative thoughts, liked to complain, and did not like to give in when arguing.

Until one day, through social media, Wanti came to know the community of Jesus' disciples at GKDI Jayapura. She then began studying the Bible with a sister named Titiek, a leader of the group single. Challenge after challenge she had to go through: denying herself, leaving behind her own pleasures, and fighting laziness in order to study the Bible according to schedule.

Praise God, the Word of God had the power to transform Wanti's life. Wanti, who used to find it hard to deny herself, is now enthusiastic every time she gathers with the sisters. She began building a relationship with her stepfather, so they became close and had good communication. In the end, in December 2020, Wanti made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus and was baptized.

However, God's work in Wanti's life did not stop there. Her younger sister, Diani, was inspired by Yanti's changed life. She also wanted to get to know the community where her sister was. As a result, Diani is currently in the process of studying the Bible together with the ministry teens.

Besides her younger sister, Wanti also invited her former college friend, Marion Tandipayung, who now works in Timika. Through online meetings, Marion diligently studied the Bible together with the brothers and sisters in the single ministry in Jayapura. At the end of November 2021, Marion decided to become a disciple of Jesus and was baptized. Remarkably, Marion took leave from her job, then came to Jayapura at her own expense to fellowship and be baptized.

Going forward, Wanti wants to serve God even more, especially in the ministry teens. She also wants to reach even more people who do not yet know God, especially members of her family.
