Good News from the Jayapura Congregation - Steven

God's Plan
Steven Kurniawan was born in Jakarta on October 6, 1989. He is the youngest of two siblings. His father worked as a driver for taking children to and from school, while his mother was a homemaker who also had a side business as a property agent.
His parents divorced when he was still young. As a result, Steven did not receive protection and affection from his parents. Together with his older sibling, he lived with his mother and their life was very modest. Because he did not receive his parents' attention and love, Steven became an indifferent and reserved person who did not concern himself much with what happened around him. He also once had a relationship with a girl of a different faith.
In 2010, Steven was invited by his uncle to live in Jayapura. As it happened, his uncle had already built a fairly successful business there. Not long afterward, Steven worked at his uncle's printing business and became someone his uncle deeply trusted.
Who would have thought that moving to Jayapura would lead Steven to a community of Jesus' disciples. A sister named Mega, who also worked at one of Steven's uncle's businesses, introduced Steven to the brothers and sisters in the congregation. At first he felt very awkward, because he was used to living on his own and not being close to people except for work matters.
Even so, Steven agreed when he was invited to study the Bible. It was here that he began to see that God had a great plan for his life. Steven began to know Christ, why Christ was willing to die for him, and also that God wanted to use his life.
Steven, who used to be quiet, indifferent, and even lived as if he had no boundaries, finally came to understand God's will for his life. In August 2020, Steven made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus and was baptized.
Today, Steven is a very joyful disciple. He has taken responsibility as a leader in the single ministry in Jayapura, helping the Jayapura Digital Team and being deeply involved in many congregation activities. His dream is to keep being rooted and growing in Christ, to give life more fully in the Lord, to have a well-matched life partner, and to help his family become disciples of Jesus.
