Good News from the Palangkaraya Congregation - Merli

Becoming a Disciple Because She Was Inspired by the Way Her Older Siblings Lived

One of the most joyful moments in our lives is when a family member is won over to the Lord. On October 18, 2020, this good news came to GKDI Palangka Raya from the siblings Yessi, Etri, and Merli. On that day, their youngest sister, Merli, finally made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus. 

At first, Yessie came to know this community through social media. After studying the Bible, she made the decision to become a disciple of Jesus in October 2019. In December 2019, Etri, Yessie’s third sibling, also gave herself to be baptized. At that time, Merli, Yessie’s fourth sibling, namely their youngest sister, was also studying God’s word. Unfortunately, Merli felt she still had many doubts, so she decided not to continue her Bible study.

However, God had His own way of shaping Merli’s conviction. Over the following year, she witnessed how Yessie and Etri lived very differently compared to before they became disciples of Jesus. Merli saw how her two older sisters became more responsible, loving one another, more patient, and able to become peacemakers in family conflicts. In addition, they also consistently maintained their relationship with God every day.

The change in character of her older sisters deeply inspired Merli, who at that time tended to rely on her own way of weighing things and acting. Through a number of events, Merli came to realize that she could not do everything without relying on the strength of God.

After that, Merli decided to study the Bible again and draw near to God with the full support of her two older sisters. It did not take long for her to make the decision to be baptized. Merli had seen how God so faithfully protected and blessed her two older sisters who chose to live obediently and remain faithful to God. This further strengthened her conviction to live fully surrendered to God’s strength. 

At present, the three of them are helping their sister, namely Merli’s second older sister who is already married, so that she too can become a disciple of Jesus. Their sister is currently studying the Bible and has already joined several activities of the Married Ministry held through the Zoom application. It is only a matter of days until their whole family can join together to glorify God. Amen!
