Good News from the Nias Congregation - Mawar

Wanting to Be a Good Influence on Others

Sometimes we do not realize how greatly our lives can impact others, whether for good or for ill. This is Mawar's experience, our single sister from the Nias Congregation.

At first Mawar was amazed to see the marriage of Charis, her coworker, a disciple of Jesus who was already like an older sister to her. Mawar saw that the relationship between Charis and her husband Yusuf was so different from what she usually saw in other couples. The two of them loved each other, respected each other, and had a spiritually guided marriage.

Inspired by them, Mawar, who at that time was dating a man of a different faith, had a dream of having a marriage like the one Charis and Yusuf had. A relationship built on mutual respect, full of love and faithfulness.

For that reason, Mawar began to find out how she could learn the things Charis and Yusuf had learned. In time, she met disciples of Jesus, who patiently explained many things about life. How everything is never separated from the power and greatness of God, the Lord of all, who became human in the person of Jesus.

During the process of studying the word, Mawar faced every challenge given to her. She learned to draw closer to and depend on God, beyond her dependence on her own strength and thinking. It was not easy to learn a new faith , but she realized there were many truths that were opened up to her during her study.

Part of Mawar's uncertainty was rooted in her concern about her family's response if they knew she was studying God's word. In addition, besides going through struggles of faith, Mawar was also striving to complete the final stage of her thesis. The demands of achievement made her tempted to give a sum of money to certain parties in order to get good grades. People around her advised her, and even supported her, in committing the kind of cheating that had already become commonplace.

In the midst of her uncertainty, Mawar received counsel and was guided to live rightly,, be honest, and rely on God. This was advice she had never heard in her entire life. After that, Mawar decided to finish her thesis honestly. Praise God, she succeeded in receiving an A without being dishonest at all.

After five months of studying the Bible personally, on 08 November 2020, Mawar made the decision to live a new life in the Lord and acknowledge Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She realized that God loved her so much that He was willing to suffer and die on the cross for her while she was still a sinner.

Now, Mawar wants to love God through a righteous life, in accordance with God's word, so that she can make a good impact and be a blessing to the people around her. Amen!
