Good News from the Manokwari Congregation - Rizky
The Faith Journey of a Young Baptism
The year 2019 became an extraordinary season of faith for the Manokwari Congregation. Despite various personal challenges and moments of joy and sorrow, we are grateful for the baptism of the second generation that year. The Lord's grace and presence continually strengthened each member of the congregation to faithfully live as disciples of Jesus. One of them is our sister Rizky.
Rizky's journey toward baptism was not easy. Her mother, Mrs. Mince, is a single parent who has been a disciple of Jesus for several years. The two of them came to know the congregation ten years ago, at the beginning of the church planting in Manokwari. At that time Rizky was still an elementary school student who eagerly joined Sunday School activities. As she entered her teenage years, her Bible study was interrupted for a time because of the transition process and her preparation for college at one of the public universities in Manokwari.
When asked why she wanted to study the Bible and be baptized, Rizky said that what she saw and heard in congregational life was not merely rhetoric. The church's doctrine and the life of the early church proved to be so relevant to her life. In fact, this made her even more challenged and convinced in her decision to become a disciple of Jesus at a young age.
Now, one of Rizky's dreams is to be salt and light on her campus. At present she is still part of the Youth Ministry, considering that the local Campus Ministry is still in the process of being formed.
In 2020, Campus Ministry UNIPA (Universitas Negeri Papua) will be opened, with members coming from the sons and daughters of the congregation. For that reason, we ask for prayers for the Manokwari Congregation, especially for our Campus Ministry, that it may soon be realized and be able to reach more young souls. To God be the glory!
