Good News from the Bangka Congregation - Alfon

Fruitful Labor

It takes strong resolve and hard work to begin an evangelistic mission. With that awareness, in 2009, Alfon and his wife Novi left their home in Batam to join the mission team of the congregation in their hometown. The two of them returned with a determination to share the gospel with family, friends, and new acquaintances in Pangkalpinang and on Bangka Island.

The early years in Pangkalpinang were difficult. Alfon had to find a new job to provide for his family. In the first year, Alfon shared the gospel with his cousin and his wife. After studying the word and being baptized, both of them also shared their faith and helped others come to know the Lord. While Alfon gave his heart to the mission, God blessed his family. Two more daughters were born to complete Alfon and Novi's happiness.

The ten years of their new life in Bangka were marked by many changes, both in work and in ministry. Over the past few months, Alfon's fish cracker business has faced obstacles. The supply of raw materials from the supplier that did not match the agreement hampered production and reduced their income. Alfon and Novi have had to struggle to cover household expenses and the education costs of their three daughters.

Remarkably, difficult economic circumstances have not kept them from continuing to serve. Alfon remains involved in Bible teaching and leads a PDG group (Group Discipleship). He started a caring team ministry focused on serving people who are going through hardship and need more attention. For example, visiting church members or their family members who are sick. Recently, he led a team of several brothers and sisters in the congregation to help build a toilet for a sister who is a single mom

Alfon's nineteen-year journey as a disciple of Jesus has greatly shaped his character. Once indifferent and quick-tempered, Alfon is now better known as someone patient, self-controlled, eager to serve, and caring toward others. He has grown into a person who is consistent in building his relationship with God and with the brothers and sisters in the congregation.

Alfon is deeply grateful for the Lord's presence in his life up to this point. Going forward, he hopes to always depend on the Lord, grow spiritually, and be emotionally healthy. He also hopes that those in the group he leads can grow together and become new leaders. Amen.

But if I must live in this world, that means fruitful labor for me. – Philippians 1:22a - Church GKDI is currently in 35 cities. We have Bible study activities in every area.
