Embrace Your Feeling: Your Feelings Are Just as Important as Logic

Logic (logic) and feeling (feeling) are important components that influence the dynamics of our lives. Each person has a different measure of logic and feeling. In processing information and making decisions, some people use logic more, while others place greater emphasis on feeling.
God created human beings with logic and feeling. That means He wants us to use both in balance. If so, why do so many people see feelings as a weakness? In the end, we avoid feelings and more often empower the ‘mind’ than the ‘heart’ for fear of being seen as overly sensitive or spoiled.
How can we accept feelings as an element just as important as logic?
Feeling vs Logic
Some of you may be like me. People who are basically more guided by feelings, yet in daily life rely heavily on logic. Why? Because processing logic is much easier. It is as simple as 1 + 1 = 2. Feelings cannot be explained that simply.
One day, for some reason, I suddenly cried and felt tired. Even though everything was going well. There was nothing bad or sad to cry over. I was not like my usual self.
I tried to analyze myself and came to one conclusion. It turned out that all this time I had often covered up my feelings by keeping myself busy. My emotional side was not getting any attention. I always made room for logic, but I did not allow my feelings to speak. In fact, when things were difficult, I prayed, “God, please turn off my feelings for now.” As a result, my feelings protested that injustice, and their outcry overflowed into tears.
Until one day I was gathered with friends and my spiritual mentor. By chance, we arrived at this topic and my mentor responded, “You have to accept that you have feelings, and it’s okay! Embrace your feeling!”
5 Ways to Accept and Process Feelings
From that experience, I learned five ways to process feelings in a more balanced way:1. Accept your feeling (Accept your feelings)
The first thing we need to change is our mindset or way of thinking. Accept that you are a human being with logic and feelings, and that both are equally important. Without feelings, we are nothing more than robots programmed to operate. Without logic, we cannot think objectively, we find it hard to be disciplined, and we are unable to work professionally.
God is the perfect combination of logic and feeling. If God used only logic, we would have no chance of being saved. All humanity has fallen into sin, and the wages of sin is death. Yet because His loveis so great, He sent His only Son to take our place in undergoing the death penalty (Yohanes 3:16).
The cross is the moment when God’s feeling and logic met perfectly. He is just, and at the same time, full of love.
2. Spend time with God (Spend time with God)
As someone who always wants to look strong, it is not easy for me to let others see my sad and weak side. Yet I can always be myself when I come to God. He is my God . He knows more about me than I understand about myself.
Take time to sit and communicate with God. Look for a quiet moment, for example in the morning before we begin our busyness, or at night when things are calm. Pour out your heart as if you were talking to a friend. “God, today I feel …”
“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Quiet Time will help you process your feelings and see the situation more clearly. After spend time with God, a sense of relief usually comes. We gain new understanding or ideas for taking the next step in life.
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall, but those who wait on the LORD will gain new strength: they will be like eagles rising on the strength of their wings; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:29-31
3. Be vulnerable to the right people (Be open to the right people)
Being yourself in front of others is not easy for those who often hide their feelings. They are used to looking strong in front of everyone. However, in order to be helped, we must be honest and open. Perhaps all this time others have thought we were doing fine, when in reality we were not.
God’s answer can come in many forms. It may come through inspiration we receive during quiet time, or through the advice of people around us. So, if we do not present ourselves as someone real, how can they help us?
This does not mean we need to open up and tell just anyone. Open up to the right person, such as a spiritual mentor who can guide and direct us on the right path.
4. It’s okay to cry (It’s okay if you want to cry)
For some people, crying feels like risking their pride. Yet accept this: we are human beings who can feel tired or sad. Even the Lord Jesus Himself dared to express His feelings to His disciples while waiting in the Garden of Gethsemane.
… then He said to them, "My soul is very sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and keep watch with Me." – Matthew 26:38
For both men and women, hey, it’s okay to cry. Crying does not mean we are weak. Crying is one way to pour out our feelings. More often than not, after crying, we feel relieved and are able to think clearly in facing problems.
5. Listen to your heart, mind, and body (Listen to your heart, mind, and body)
People cover up their feelings in different ways. Some build a very high wall of logic. Some keep themselves busy with many things (to forget their feelings). Or they run from reality and become addicted to games, alcohol, or illegal drugs.
I used to be someone who shut down my feelings with a mountain of to-do-list and targets. Even though I knew what my heart and body needed. Realizing this, I set aside one day each week for me-time, doing what I want. Whether that is swimming, reading books, listening to music, or writing. As a result, I am now much happier and enjoy life far more.
Take a break for a moment, pay attention to your health, pursue knowledge, or spend time with the people youlove. Do not keep running and avoiding things. Listen to your heart, mind, and body. Understand what they need.
I hope my experience and the tips above can help you accept feelings as an important part of who you are. There is no need to be afraid of looking weak just because at times you put your feelings first. However, there is one thing to remember. Do not go too far in embrace your feeling and forget to use logic. Both must go hand in hand so that our lives remain balanced.
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:7
