Day 25: 31 Days in Prayer

Verse:

There is none like You among the gods, O Lord, and there is nothing like what You have done. All the nations You have made will come and bow in worship before You, O Lord, and will glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous works; You alone are God.  (Psalm 86:8-10 - TB)

Reflection:

Verse 8. As in the time of King David, there are also many gods today. Perhaps school or work is your god; exercise or watching television; sleep or food; perhaps even you yourself have become the god over your own life. Yet, just as in David's time, these gods make people fall down and worship them. All these gods have one thing in common: not one of them created the world, and none of them is like the Lord of hosts whom we worship. God created things and performs miracles that cannot be matched. He created the human heart, so tender, and the human mind, so complex. Among all the “gods” or “deities” in the whole universe, not one is able to create something out of nothing except the Lord whom we worship. Verse 9. Even though there are many nations and religions that do not worship God, there will be a day when “every knee will bow” (Romans 14:11). Right now we have the special privilege of worshiping God with the freedom we have in Christ. We are not forced to worship Him, but we choose to because of His overwhelming greatness and His perfect love. Verse 10. God Himself is God. While many other gods claim themselves to be deities, and many people worship many idols and other gods, there is only one God who is truly God.  He calls Himself the LORD, and His time is given to creating the universe, beginning to form it, speaking to the seas, and determining how many galaxies He allows to exist. He is God and He is worthy.

Challenge:

Try to think through what things in the areas of your life are ready to compete for the highest place that belongs to God. Consider how you place God in your heart, and remember all the reasons He desires to be first. God has done so many extraordinary good things since you were born and even before that, before the world was formed.
