Singles, These 3 Special Freedoms Are Just for You!

When we were little, we wanted to grow up fast. No wonder children often imitate the way adults act and dress. Yet when we are grown, we want to be children again. Life full of freedom, with no need to think about finances or the future.

That is human nature; never satisfied. When they are still (single), they worry, eager to have a boyfriend or girlfriend and get married. After getting married, then faced with problems far more complex, they say, “If I could choose, I would want to be singleagain.” This lack of gratitude is what makes many people live in misery.

So, if you are still singleright now, congratulations! Do you know that you have so much to be grateful for and enjoy?

Being Single Is Freedom

kebebasan - gkdi 1

One of the blessings of your single years is freedom, or liberty. It is in this season that you can explore and have the greatest freedom compared with other phases of life.

When you are still a child, you have the responsibility to study. Your parents support you and you depend on them, so you cannot act however you want. After marriage, you are responsible for the generation above you (your parents) and below you (your children). In old age, you may have plenty of money and time, with few or no dependents. Yet your energy and health have already declined.

Being single is the perfect season to be productive and grow. You have extraordinary money, time, and energy (if you manage all three well). Singles do not yet have many responsibilities, though some do become the breadwinners of the family. But in general, you are responsible only for yourself and God. You have the freedom to arrange your own life .

Here are three special freedoms that singles:

1. Freedom of Time

kebebasan - gkdi 2

Those who are married do not have as much free time as singles do. There are responsibilities, whether to a husband, wife, children, or the family of their spouse. Besides that, they must divide their time between work, caring for the household, and maintaining a personal relationship with God. The feeling will arise: “Why does it seem like I never have enough time to do everything?”

Today, if you are still single, be grateful! Make the best and wisest use of the privilege of your single years. Use your time for things that are beneficial. If you want to go on adventures to new places, reach for sky-high dreams, or learn a new skill, now is the time.

Do not waste time or postpone what you want to achieve by thinking, “I’ll do it later when I’m married, I will …” Be careful, the single season is a brief golden time. The time will come when you must enter another phase of life that limits your freedom more.

Therefore, pay close attention to how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because these days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but seek to understand what the will of the Lordis.” – Ephesians 5:15-17

2. Freedom to Make Friends

kebebasan - gkdi 3

Our way of thinking determines our life . You can think, “Oh no, my life is so sad. Other friends already have boyfriends or girlfriends, are married, and even have children. I am still alone.” You can think your single life looks miserable. Or, you can see your single season as beautiful and enjoyable. You are free to be friends with anyone without anyone getting angry or jealous.

Once you have a boyfriend or girlfriend, you no longer have the opportunity to be friends with the opposite sex as freely as you can now. Especially once you are married, your best friend of the opposite sex must be your spouse. It is actually dangerous if that close friend of the opposite sex is not your spouse.

So, when else is the right time to open yourself to friendship if not single?

Instead of being busy wallowing in sadness, it is better to use your freedom to build as much friendshipas possible, both with the same sex and the opposite sex. Get to know as many new people as you can and learn from them. The more network you build, the more opportunities for new relationships can be created. But always remember to build positive, mutually strengthening friendships in the Lord.

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools suffers harm. – Proverbs 13:20

3. Freedom to Serve God

kebebasan - gkdi 4

I want you to live without worry. An unmarried man is concerned about the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord . But a married man is concerned about worldly matters, how he may please his wife, and so his interests are divided.

An unmarried woman and a virgin are concerned about the things of the Lord, so that they may be holy in body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about worldly matters, how she may please her husband.

I say all this for your own benefit, not to restrict your freedom, but rather so that you may do what is proper and good, and serve the Lord without distraction.

– 1 Corinthians 7:32-35

In the English version, the phrase ‘serve without distraction’ is written as undivided devotion—serving with an undivided focus on God. So be grateful for and make the most of your freedom to serve the Lord in your single years.

As Paul said, after marriage, your focus will automatically be divided. You have the responsibility to make your spouse happy. It will be more difficult to focus 100% on God without distraction. How can you focus when you are just about to have a quiet time, and suddenly your child starts crying? Jesus began His ministry while single. He knew that was a precious season to do much for God the Father who sent Him. We should follow Jesus by using our single season for the glory of the Lord. How will you spend your single years? By serving the Lord with all your heart? Amassing as much wealth as possible? Or wasting your time, money, and energy on things that are useless? Are you only living for yourself, without discipline, thinking you can enjoy the same youth, opportunity, and health forever?

So, singles, stop hoping that your single season will quickly change into another season you assume is better. Every season has its own strengths and weaknesses. Whether you are grateful for it or curse it, every season will end. Life is a choice. So choose to enjoy every stage of life that the Lord gives. Do not end up regretting that you wasted your single years.

The freedom of time, friendship, and serving God is an incomparable blessing for singles. Use your single season to build yourself into an extraordinary person in the Lord. Let’s rock your single life!
