Consistency: An Important Element of Success

Each person’s life journey is unique, but there is one thing successful people have in common in reaching their goals: a consistent attitude. If you truly want to achieve success this year, one of the keys is consistency.
Whether in relationships, work, studies, ministry, spiritual growth, self-development, or health, perhaps all this time you are still struggling or are not yet used to being consistent. So, what does the Bible say about consistency, and how can we cultivate a consistent attitude within ourselves?
The Power of Consistency

Bruce Lee said, “I do not fear the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.” The key to success is perseverance in consistently taking the necessary steps, rather than constantly changing steps without faithfully applying even one of them.
So, it is not enough just to set New Year’s resolutions, targets, or goals; you must also be consistent in going through the process. You do not need to make immediate leaps or drastically change everything. Start with something simple, and do not stop doing it. Small steps taken consistently will produce better results than big steps taken inconsistently.
God, the Consistent One

Through the Bible, we know how God is deeply consistent in every one of His promises, words, and actions. He always fulfills His promises. The fulfillment of these promises shows that from age to age, God is a consistent person.
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great; and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and through you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” – Genesis 12:2-3
God promised Abraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and through his line, all nations would be blessed. This promise was again emphasized by God to David:
When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, then I will raise up your offspring after you, your own son, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. – 2 Samuel 7:12–13
God promised that He would always love David and his descendants. Even though David’s descendants were not always faithful to God, He remembered and kept His promise. Again and again God reminded the prophets of this (Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2), until one of those promises was fulfilled when Jesus was born ( Luke 1:31-33).
This is the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. – Matthew 1:1
If consistency is one of God’s characteristics, should it not also become your character? Then, how can you become a more consistent person?
8 Steps to Becoming a Consistent Person
1. Make a List of Priorities

Write down and rank the things that are your priorities. In this way, you can make sure the most important things come first. This will also make it easier for you to divide your time.
2. Make a Schedule Based on Your Priorities

A schedule allows you to have a routine. In other words, you will be consistent. For example, if you want to lose weight, set a schedule to exercise every week
3. Set Goals Specific That You Want to Achieve

The more specific your goals are, the more focused you will be in achieving them. For example, if you want to save regularly, decide how often you want to save, the amount, and how you will keep those savings.
4. Find Friends or a Community That Supports You

With friends or an environment that shares the same goals and supports you, it will be easier to achieve your goals. You will always remember your purpose and be more motivated in your efforts.
5. Find a Partner to Remind You

More specifically, find a friend or mentor who can monitor your progress. Tell them your plan and ask them to make sure and remind you to stay consistent.
6. Do Not Give Up!

You may experience failure at first. After all, great things are not achieved easily. JK Rowling had to endure many bitter rejections before a publisher was willing to publish the Harry Potter books. And then there was Steve Jobs, who was removed from the company he himself founded before eventually becoming a key figure behind Apple’s success. You need to prepare yourself not to give up easily and to keep trying.
7. Create a New Image of Yourself

One of the things that keeps you from being consistent is failure in the past. Whether it is failing a diet, failing to save money, or failing to be punctual, you need to break free from that image of yourself. Imagine that, in the next few months, you have already become a punctual person or a healthier person. With a vision, you will be more motivated and consistent.
8. Do It, Do It, Do It!

No matter how great your goal is, and no matter how mature your plan is, it means nothing if it is not carried out. So, whatever your mood and situation may be, strive to consistently carry out your plan—again and again every day!
.
A consistent attitude is the most powerful way to achieve your goals. So, train yourself to be more consistent in this new year. Wishing you success!
