Building Loving Family Relationships

Repairing broken family relationships takes great effort and strong determination, but it is not impossible. Lieke, a sister in the Magelang Congregation. 

Lieke came to know the community of Jesus’ disciples in April 2019 through her friend, William, who was studying the Bible. William invited Lieke to dinner with brother Kelvin and sister Nadya. From their first meeting, Nadya quickly became close to Lieke, who was friendly and easy to get along with. The two soon became close friends. When she was invited to know God more deeply, Lieke immediately agreed because she truly had a longing for that.

Over the course of two months of studying the word, many things changed in Lieke’s life. She was truly serious about seeking God. Even in the midst of her busy work schedule, and though she often had to work overtime, Lieke still made time to study the Bible. 

Lieke’s greatest challenge lay in her family relationships and friendships. Besides not being close to her family, Lieke also tended to be selfish and quick to lie, and she often fought with her mother and oldest sibling.

After understanding the meaning of repentance more deeply, Lieke decided to apologize to her mother and sibling. Not only that, Lieke also tried to always be honest and open with her family. She also began building healthy friendships with her friends.

Lieke’s struggle to live out repentance bore sweet fruit. Now she can enjoy quality time with her family. The atmosphere in her home is no longer awkward, but full of love, and Lieke’s family supports her life in the congregation at GKDI. 

On June 30, 2019, the Magelang congregation rejoiced because Lieke made the decision to be baptized. We are inspired by her heart, which is easily shaped by the word and full of love.
