Book Review - I Choose Us

I Choose Us draws from the Bible, credible research, and the Louis family’s life experience to build a strong case for the importance of having a healthy and vibrant marriage. This book takes readers through the different stages of marriage and offers practical, biblical advice on how to build a Love Connection by showing real love and respect to our spouse.

With engaging comic illustrations and questionnaires, this book also provides valuable insight into unhealthy thought patterns, called lifetrap (schema). Rather than relying on ineffective communication and behavior, which always lead to the Spiral of Escalating Conflict, I Choose Us helps couples break harmful cycles and avoid hurtful ways of coping (coping style) as they practice being vulnerable and forgiving.

About the Authors: Married for more than 22 years with two active teenage children, John and Karen Louis, leaders of Central Christian Church in Singapore, have been on the full-time ministry staff since 1985. Both hold Master’s degrees in Counseling from Monash University of Melbourne, Australia, and are members of professional counseling associations in America, Australia, and Singapore. As the founders of Movie Therapy™, John and Karen combine the use of multimedia in seminars for churches as well as secular organizations, and have taught marriage and parenting seminars around the world. John is a certified Schema Therapist and a member of the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST), and was trained by Dr. Jeffrey Young, the founder of Schema Therapy.
