Day 28
GOD WHO LOVES HIS CHURCH
Ephesians 5:25, "Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her"This verse is often used to explain the relationship between husband and wife, but there is a truth explained in parallel language here: that Jesus loves the church so deeply that He was willing to give Himself up for the church. In the explanatory section, it is made clear that Jesus also cares for the church just as we care for our own bodies. By describing the church as the body of Christ, we come to understand that to the Lord, creation and authority are just as important as being the head of the body, namely, the church (Colossians 1:15-19).
Verses for Reflection:
Ephesians 4:4, "one body, and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope contained in your calling,"
Ephesians 1:22, "And all things have been placed under Christ's feet, and He was given to the church as Head over all things."
Ephesians 2:19-22, "So then you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God's household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. In Him the whole building, fitted together neatly, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God in the Spirit."
Ephesians 4:15-16, "but by holding firmly to the truth in love, we grow in every way toward Him, Christ, who is the Head. From Him the whole body, -- fitted together neatly and bound into one by the ministry of all its parts, according to the measure of each member's work -- receives its growth and builds itself up in love."
