Attributes of God: Day 20

Day 20

GOD IS PATIENT

2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, though some count it as slowness, but He is patient toward you, because He desires that none should perish, but that everyone should turn and repent"

In a world full of a culture of reward punishment (reward-punishment), God's patient nature is difficult to understand. Or in a culture of compromised living, God's patience is often misunderstood as God's goodness being absolute and beyond compare. But every time the Bible speaks of God's patience, what it means is that God is patient in waiting for us to turn from our old way of life and repent.

Verses for Reflection:

Romans 2:4, "Do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, His patience, and His forbearance? Do you not know that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?"

Micah 7:19, "He will again have compassion on us, blot out our sins, and cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."

Ezekiel 20:17, "But I took pity on them, so I did not destroy them or put an end to them in the wilderness."

Psalm 78:38, "Yet He is compassionate; He forgave their iniquity and did not destroy them. Time after time He held back His anger and did not stir up all His wrath."

Nahum 1:3, "The LORD is slow to anger and great in power, yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. He walks in the whirlwind and the storm, and the clouds are the dust of His feet.

Psalm 86:15, "But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in love and faithfulness."
