Attributes of God: Day 16

Day 16

THE GRACIOUS GOD (GRACIOUS)

Exodus 34:6, "Then the LORD passed before him and proclaimed: "The LORD, the LORD, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness".

This is one of the passages in the Bible where God wants to be known by His people. God wanted the nation of Israel to know that He is a God full of steadfast love (Gracious). Understanding this should make us feel more secure in drawing near to God, and give us a right view of Him. Imagine God crying out to Moses, "YAHWEH, YAHWEH,” the Lord who abounds in steadfast love, is this alone not enough for us to dare come near to Him with all our shortcomings, and even our falls?

Verses for Reflection:

Joel 2:12-13, ""Even now," declares the LORD, "return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning." Tear your heart and not your garments, return to the LORD your God, for He is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and He relents from sending punishment."

Jonah 3:10-4:2, "When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, then God relented from the disaster He had planned to bring upon them, and He did not do it. But this greatly displeased Jonah, and he became angry. So he prayed to the LORD, saying: "Ah, LORD, was this not what I said when I was still in my own country? That is why I fled at first to Tarshish, for I knew that You are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and One who relents from sending disaster."

Ephesians 1:5-8, "In love He predestined us through Jesus Christ to be His children, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, which He freely gave us in the One He loves. For in Him and through His blood we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished on us in all wisdom and understanding."
